‘The Spirit of Newstead Abbey’ is my second book. The first book, ‘Shades of Heroes’, was written to remind the reader that many memorable people have lived in the Abbey over its long history and that their stories need to be told. This second book is different. It started as a guide to the building describing the rooms and their histories. However, since Newstead Abbey is reputed to be one of the most haunted buildings in Nottinghamshire, it only seemed right to include the ghostly events which have taken place over the years. The two aspects are not incompatible since it is the rooms and their contents that attract these apparitions and the book endeavours to explain why Little Sir John always appears in the Library and Boatswain’s footprints in the Chapel.’
